PET WELLNESS

Pet wellness appointments provide a great opportunity for our doctor to perform a physical examination on your pet while discussing any concerns. This appointment provides an opportunity to detect any potential medical issues before they become serious problems. We will address vaccinations and preventatives and discuss any additional recommended services such as dental cleanings or diagnostic testing.

VACCINATIONS

Walton VetCare understands the importance of vaccinations for your pet’s health. From puppy and kitten vaccination protocols to annual boosters, vaccinations play a vital role in preventing common diseases. Core vaccines protect against several highly contagious and potentially deadly diseases that all pets are at risk of encountering, no matter their lifestyle. For dogs, core vaccines include rabies and DAPP (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza). Core vaccines for cats include rabies and FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia). Depending on your location and pet’s exposure, we may recommend optional vaccines such as leptospirosis, bordetella, lyme disease, and FeLV. Our team will create a vaccine schedule tailored to your pet’s age, breed, lifestyle, and environment.

PREVENTION AND CONTROL

We understand the potential health risks posed by parasites to both your pet and your family. That is why we recommend year-round flea, tick and heartworm prevention. Fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal worms are common parasites that can lead to serious health issues. Physical examinations, fecal tests, and blood tests performed during your pet’s annual exam can detect any parasite problems. Even if no symptoms are visible, these tests provide early detection. We will work with you to establish a prevention plan tailored to your pet and your lifestyle. We offer choices of oral or topical treatments or longer term injectable treatments.

PUPPY AND KITTEN CARE

Walton VetCare believes in starting with a good foundation for a new puppy or kitten to have a happy, healthy life. That is why we encourage 1st Puppy and Kitten appointments be scheduled within the first few weeks of becoming part of your family. We will discuss parasite prevention and the importance of considering spaying /neutering and microchipping your pet. Bringing a new puppy or kitten into your family can bring happiness and challenges. Our team is here to support you and your pet through both.

SENIOR PET CARE

As pets get older, their needs change. We understand these changes and the importance of preparing for their senior years. We recommend consistent wellness exams with Senior Wellness Panels for our aging patients. Both help detect issues before they progress. We may suggest dietary adjustments, exercise modifications or other healthcare options for senior pets. Recognizing difficulty or increased effort getting up, stiff joints, decreased stamina or energy levels, sensitivity to grooming or touch or urinary/fecal accidents may be indications of discomfort or developing issues. If you notice any of these signs, contact us to help identify the source and initiate appropriate treatment. Our team wants to work with you to  help your senior pet enjoy a happy and healthy senior life.
